the modular

the modular
my whole break consisted of research for this machine
then selling everything i own to fund it...:)
school started again today as well. same day the case got filled.
lots going on
math 95 algebraish
anatomy+phisiology 2
gentle yoga (hopefully better than my previous yoga class!!!)
and some tatse shows coming up
but mostly playing the new little wall!

sometimes i put on return to forever's romantic warrior and try to fix my synthesizers. i believe the amount of progress made on the synths health status is directly proportional to the amplitude at which romantic warrior is being played and inversely proportional to the amount of clothes i am wearing. if u can picture all this happening....sorry!

yoga...ugh

firstly i must preface this by stating it is like 110 degrees in PDX literally
so this summer semester i m in a yoga class
i dread this yoga class to differing degrees daily
i signed up with the expectation that it was an 'at least somewhat introductory' class
indeed i was way off. it is grouped into 'yoga1+yoga2'
one class to rule all our asses
calling it intense would be misleading
the teacher ascribes to a specific form called bikram yoga
shitz iz crazy
not to mention it meets four out of five business days for an hour and a quarter
so the tomorrow is my last class and it has felt like the ascent to the summit of mount yoga
i was unprepared for such an endeavor
to really top things off, the final class is what our teacher calls 'pink floyd yoga'
now i am happy to have just one more class but this seems ridiculous
i m guessing the ol' teach thinks she is giving us a treat for our last day of class
but let me tell you that listening to dark side of the moon while busting my ass in the least relaxing yoga class after weeks of this shit is like icing on an evil evil cake of death
there are a number of bands i really don't like, luckily i don't have any need to detail those suffice it to say that floyd is up there on the list!

ok, so basically tomorrow night (assuming i get my grade for my last anatomy exam (and it isn't a d or f) is a day for celebrating
i will get a break for a few weeks/months on 'responsible' bedtimes, at least...until my NEXT yoga class starts
luckily i went out of my way to insure that the yoga class will be a reasonable one
it is called 'gentle yoga'
music to my ears
GENTLE mutherfuckers, oh yeah

also, before i forget: i ordered the magma box set which contains every single studio recording they have done starting from late 60's (i think) till present day. (thanks fhank 4 the headzupz)
now if that isn't exciting i don't know what is
over

updated the enjoyable section here to things that have been interesting lately
stressed about upcoming anatomy and physiology lec. exam
avoiding studies by....blogging...never thought i'd say that
missing my girlfriends snuggles :( getting along better with the cat today than yesterday thankfully
got the work done on the mini today, it is definitely closer to full health status but still exhibits odd behavior. maybe it will iron itself out.
yet further modular plans. on the search for the perfect motm format single space diode filter of three bands or less. geek speak for quirky amazing (maybe nonexistent) filter. that is sort of the last bit. everything else feels right in my plan, for now anyway.

back to work for me.

maybe mini gets fixed?

saturday while holly is home back east i will be going to a newfound synth friends house.
now it just so happens that this friend is a guy who knows A LOT of synth people.
we are going to endeavor to do some repairs on my minimoog model d which have as yet been diagnosed as elusive at best and impossible at worst.
i feel guardedly optimistic about this as a famous moog tech by the name of kevin lightner has sort of blessed this project by sending my friend the proposed necessary parts for the repairs.
now, this isn't the first time i have tried to get these problems fixed so who knows what will happen
i hope it is easy and straightforward!
wish us luck and send good thoughts saturday early afternoon (pacific time) as we may need help!

legal fun Under the sun

signed up for summer classes today! got everything i need to be on sequence to apply to the nursing program. school has been very intense.
been meeting more synth people these days and it has been wonderful to discuss concepts and ideas as well as gearlust.
i get closer to the idea of having a modular setup.
saw sebastien tellier @ doug fir. very good show
need super slow sine wave lfo in order to modulate parameters(ideally just simple filter) very slowly.

zombie zoo

tried to go to the zoo today
after seeing what looked like hundreds of people in the overflow parking lot trying to get on the shuttle, we decided better of it and opted for the beautiful rhododendron garden.
lots and lots of ducks and squirrels. it was beautiful and relaxing
the relaxing part was key as these past few days have held countless troublesome topics
school starts monday.
here come the math classes...

I sometimes wonder

in th'last day i have seen a number of concerts at the weiden kennedy atrium in a show of anti-war support upon the 7th anniversary of the war.
the music has been all over the place but some amazing stuff
all free as well
check it
it goes on until 6 or 7 tonight so go see free arts and support the anti-war!!!
bummer...
toilet overflowing + plunger not working = messy bathroom/frustrated me
i don't like this math problem very much.

i am enrolled in community college to complete pre-requisites for a nursing program
this is all good news
i have been tweeting more link
and am figuring how to put music up here as well...
totally re-addicted to coffee(for the 100000000th time)
also again discovered the beauty and usefulness of melodica
conceiving of a new piece based on a musical greeting card my brother sent me using:
tympani, taal tarang D, multi-tracked melodica and who knows what else...

It's hard times befallen The sole survivors

began the day with ali farka toure
a nice start
again the search, to no avail
gave up just in time for a wonderful brunch with a wonderful friend
then music at his place:
witness the virgin coupling of another beautiful old string synth circa 1973 with the taal tarang D.
amazing
add some clavinet/another drum machine track/mono lead/fabricated orch hit and man do you
have a winner (with a bit of arranging)
odd, it is hard times but my soul does not feel as crushed as it might.
i will say that not having to wake up @ 7 is a blessing at least temporarily

"Uptown it's murder out in the street"

weekend coming to a close
needing to embrace adjustment of schedule and flexibility
unemployment office awaits me in my monday morning
weekend has been up and down but functional (all things considered)
food shopping, a little too aware of the looming limitedness of funds
happy:teaching loving girlfriend about the the finer points of a operating the minimoog
amazed at how many people seem to be in the same (laid off) boat

must be a pretty big boat

"you know there's fire in the hole"

yesterday i got laid off.
today i need a plan
this country(usa) is pretty fucked currently
"i'll start a blog"
maybe this will help to keep objectivity and levity and somehow cosmically help me to
acheive gainful employment
tension has been high in the homestead
but overall i am taking it rather well
i have about a month to hatch a plan before the money runs out
maybe grad school...
might need to ditch the rental house and move to a smaller apartment
need to take it easy
what the hell am i going to do for a month?
it has to work out somehow
monday i go to the unemployment office
never thought i would be hoping for foodstamps
